What it’s for
- Pattern hair-loss treatment
A branded light-based cap marketed for scalp hair growth.
Purpose, evidence and practical considerations.
Trials of low-level light devices show some benefit, but devices and study quality vary. Evidence for the device category does not establish that every cap delivers the same result.
Confidence: moderate
Use only for the labelled hair-loss population and skin types. Avoid eye exposure, damaged skin and unlabelled body sites; photosensitising medicines or scalp disease warrant clinician review. FDA clearance is device- and indication-specific, not proof of all marketing claims.
Low-level red laser light is intended to deliver photobiomodulation to scalp follicles. Proposed effects include altered cellular signalling and prolongation of the anagen growth phase; device wavelength, irradiance, coverage and schedule determine exposure.
Regulatory status: manufacturer states FDA clearance for androgenetic hair loss in Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV; exact clearance should be checked against the device labelling
