What it’s for
- Treating an identified iron need
A branded heme iron polypeptide supplement derived from animal haemoglobin.
Purpose, evidence and practical considerations.
Small clinical trials have not shown consistent superiority to conventional oral iron. Iron supplementation should follow the reason for deficiency and measured response, rather than a general wellness goal.
Confidence: moderate
Iron can cause gastrointestinal symptoms and dangerous overdose, especially in children. Excess iron can damage organs; avoid unsupervised use with hemochromatosis or normal or high iron stores. Iron interacts with levothyroxine and some antibiotics, so separation and clinician or pharmacist review may be needed. The product is bovine-derived.
Heme iron polypeptide supplies elemental iron in a heme-bound form that is absorbed through pathways partly distinct from non-heme iron. Iron supports hemoglobin and oxygen transport, but supplementation is useful only when intake or iron status warrants it.
