EPA has established triglyceride-lowering effects, and 4 g/day prescription icosapent ethyl reduced cardiovascular events in a selected high-risk population. A personal 1–2 g fish-oil EPA routine is a different formulation and dose and should not inherit that outcome claim.

EPA products can cause gastrointestinal symptoms and may increase bleeding tendency. High-dose prescription icosapent ethyl increased atrial-fibrillation hospitalization and bleeding in REDUCE-IT; contaminants and oxidation vary in supplements.
