What it’s for
- Selected diagnosed tendon problems
A device treatment delivering acoustic pressure waves to a targeted body area.
Purpose, evidence and practical considerations.
Trials show mixed effects across different tendinopathies. Evidence does not establish that treating healthy joints or multiple asymptomatic areas prevents ageing-related problems.
Confidence: moderate
Treatment can cause pain, bruising, swelling and skin irritation. Avoid treatment over infection, malignancy, open growth plates, major neurovascular structures or bleeding risk without specialist guidance; correct diagnosis and targeting matter.
Acoustic pulses create mechanical stimulation in tissue and may alter pain signalling, blood flow and remodelling. Outcomes are condition-, target-, energy- and device-specific; treating healthy joints for general rejuvenation is distinct from treating diagnosed tendinopathy.
Regulatory status: device-based therapy; clearance and indications depend on the exact device and jurisdiction
