What it’s for
- Studied for NAD metabolism
A vitamin B3-related compound used by the body to make NAD.
Purpose, evidence and practical considerations.
A small trial found increased NAD-related measurements in healthy middle-aged and older adults. This does not establish longer life or a clinical benefit from every NR product.
Confidence: weak
Short trials generally report reasonable tolerability, but long-term safety and benefits remain uncertain. Review use during pregnancy, with significant illness or alongside medical treatment.
NR enters cellular pathways that generate NAD. Increasing a blood NAD measurement does not by itself demonstrate improved tissue function or clinical outcomes.
Regulatory status: dietary supplement / novel food / niacin source — not a prescription drug. See section 7.
