Cold-water immersion can modestly reduce perceived muscle soreness after strenuous exercise. That does not establish broad longevity or recovery benefits, and frequent use immediately after resistance training may work against muscle growth and strength adaptation.

Cold water can trigger gasping, hyperventilation, blood-pressure and heart-rate changes, loss of coordination and hypothermia. Open-water use adds drowning risk; avoid solo exposure and use extra caution with cardiovascular disease, Raynaud phenomenon or impaired sensation.
