What it’s for
- Studied for low testosterone
An Eurycoma longifolia root extract promoted for testosterone and sexual wellbeing.
Purpose, evidence and practical considerations.
Some small trials of standardised extracts report higher testosterone, particularly in men with low levels. Results do not establish equivalent effects across products or replace assessment of a hormone deficiency.
Confidence: weak
Short trials of selected standardized extracts report mostly mild events, but long-term safety, reproductive effects and product authenticity remain uncertain. Avoid assuming that an unstandardized retail capsule matches a studied extract.
Eurycoma longifolia extracts contain quassinoids such as eurycomanone. Proposed effects on stress hormones, sex-hormone binding and steroidogenesis have limited human support and depend on the extract; a general testosterone-boosting mechanism is not established.
Regulatory status: dietary supplement
