What it’s for
- Studied for NAD metabolism
Nicotinamide mononucleotide, a precursor used by the body to make NAD.
Purpose, evidence and practical considerations.
Short oral trials show changes in NAD-related markers, with selected metabolic findings in specific populations. They have not established longer life or equivalent benefits from sublingual products.
Confidence: moderate
Short trials generally report tolerability over weeks to a few months, but long-term safety is not established. Product identity and purity are important because consumer NMN is not equivalent to pharmaceutical trial material. Pregnancy, cancer treatment, liver or kidney disease and medication use warrant clinician review.
Beta-nicotinamide mononucleotide is an NAD+ precursor. Oral NMN raises circulating NAD-related metabolites in short human trials, but a higher blood NAD+ measurement is a biochemical surrogate and does not establish improved organ function or slower aging.
Regulatory status: dietary supplement (vitamin B3-related NAD+ precursor). Not a prescription drug in any major market as of August 2026. A pharmaceutical-grade microcrystalline polymorph (MIB-626, Metro International Biotech) is in company-sponsored drug trials
